  • Low Static Pressure

AF120 was one of the first case fan released by Corsair; It was released in 2 models. One was sold as quiet edition and other as performance edition. We shall discuss both of these in this review but before that make sure you have had a look at my guide to best computer fans.

Firstly I was not a big fan of premium, high quality, and good looking case fans because I thought they hardly made a difference. Soon I realized case fans played a very vital role in deciding how efficient my PC would work. To give it a try, I went on Amazon and bought myself 5 of AF120 Performance Edition. They did improve my overall PC performance by over 30%. My computer hardly overheated again. So, Let’s take a look at what I fell about these fans and how my experience was.

Corsair AccessoriesInstallation

The installation process was very simple. I just grabbed my screwdriver and installed these into my case. Also, these fans have use custom made rubber corners; These are there to reduce the noise of vibration that is produced by the collision of fan and case while the fan is running. Out of the box, the fans came with all the necessary parts for installation, i.e., mounting screws, voltage adapter and three colored rings to best match you computer. I didn’t face any issue while installing it; it hardly took me 20 minutes. The manual provided all the necessary information related to installation and setup of the fan.

Corsair AF120 Color RingsLet’s begin with the AF120 Performance Edition. As the name suggests, this case fan is optimized for best performance. So, What do we mean by best performance?

The fan gives maximum airflow, a balanced static pressure at a low noise level. The AF series might not be optimized for best static pressure, but that doesn’t mean they entirely lack at it. The fans use hydraulic bearing which not only makes them run for long hours but also play an important role in reducing the sound produced. With a maximum rotational speed of 1650rpm, while flowing over 63.47 cubic feet of air per minute. At such high-performance matrix, they only produce a maximum sound of 30dB-A. Note that we are talking about the performance edition here.

Now comes the Quiet Edition. Is there any performance difference between the two?
Yes, there is a difference. Though it might not be a big deal for most of the people if you care about your computer case fan making a noise of 9 less dB-A, This is the best option for you. Unlike the previously discussed performance edition, These fans can’t be pushed too far to perform better. The fan can rotate at a maximum of 1100rpm, with an optimal airflow of about 39.88 CFM. At the maximum configuration, the fan produced only 21dB-A of noise, Which is incredibly silent.
